North Korea fired at least three ballistic missiles Thursday morning, including a long-range missile that Japan initially said flew over their territory before retracting that assessment later.

South Korean military officials have reportedly assessed that the long-range missile failed in flight before falling into the East Sea. 

The launches came the morning after North Korea fired at least 23 missiles and 100 artillery shells into waters off both coasts in its busiest day of missile launches in history, with one short-range ballistic missile landing just outside South Korean territorial waters.
