Analysis Will Tillerson redesignate North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism?A designation would apply further pressure on the DPRK, but appears unlikely for now Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has to report, by October 31, on whether the DPRK “meets the criteria for designation as a state sponsor of terrorism.” This is as required by Section 324 of the “Countering America’s Adversaries Through Sanctions Act 2017″, signed into law on August 2. The bill came just weeks after the State Department reported in July 2017 that the DPRK did not meet the criteria for designation as a state sponsor of terrorism. One might, therefore, suppose that Tillerson’s response to be the same as it was in July. But things have changed since © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
