Israel has clearly identified with the West for decades, counting the U.S. as its most important ally, and this has led the country to join in condemning North Korea’s nuclear program, while calling attention to Pyongyang’s cooperation with adversaries like Hamas and Iran.

Yet surprisingly there was a time when North Korea was highly revered among some in the Middle Eastern country.

During the Korean War (1950-53), the Israeli Left put the DPRK and its leader Kim Il Sung on a pedestal, praising the North as the righteous Korea standing up for
