News UN: No North Korean coal exports to member states in MayUN figures come as U.S. President criticizes China for increasing trade with North Korea For two months running, no UN member state has imported coal from North Korea, according to the 1718 Committee tasked with tracking and publishing the DPRK’s coal exports. A UN resolution passed in November last year added a cap on what was traditionally the North’s most lucrative export, limiting member states from importing more than 7.5 million tonnes or just over $400,000 worth of coal per year. The 1718 Committee’s numbers indicate that the North has found no foreign markets for its coal for the second month in a row, after exports fell from 1.2 million tonnes © Korea Risk Group.
