North Korea mobilized citizens for large-scale events this week to commemorate the founder Kim Il Sung’s death anniversary on Monday, upholding the founding leader’s legacy while simultaneously using it to call for loyalty to his successor, Kim Jong Un.

High-ranked officials were also spotted wearing both old loyalty pins showing former leaders and new ones showing Kim Jong Un, with Seoul assessing that Pyongyang is slowly promoting the current leader’s idolization to avoid confusing the North Korean people.
