North Korea celebrated the Day of the Sun despite cloudy skies on Monday, holding multiple events to mark the 112th birth anniversary of founding leader Kim Il Sung.

State media notably used the official name of the holiday less this year in favor of alternatives like “April holiday,” in what may have been an attempt to reinforce Kim Jong Un’s personality cult and downplay his grandfather’s legacy.

The current leader also sent about $2 million in aid to Chongryon, the DPRK-affiliated group of ethnic Koreans in Japan, to celebrate the Day of the Sun
