Analysis North Korea’s new missiles create headaches for US defense systemsCruise and tactical missiles that Pyongyang tested this week are difficult to track and provide little useful warning On Friday, North Korean state media reported on two sets of missile tests over the last four days. The country’s Academy of Defense Science oversaw the test of two “long-distance cruise missile[s]” on Tuesday and the test of two “tactical guided missile[s]” on Thursday. The tests constitute the fifth and sixth missile launch events this month, making January the busiest testing month in North Korean history. Though neither the cruise nor tactical missiles demonstrate substantial qualitative improvements over previously demonstrated capabilities, both of this week’s tests underscore steady developmental progress in North Korea © Korea Risk Group.
