Analysis North Korea’s documentary on the Kim-Xi summit: some key takeawaysState TV hailed the meeting as “comradely, candid, and friendly," underscored positive outcomes
North Korean state-run Korean Central Television (KCTV) on June 22 carried a 70-minute documentary on Kim Jong Un’s summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Pyongyang.
The documentary recapitulated all of earlier North Korean media reporting on Kim-Xi activities (see the table below), which is consistent with the norm.
The announcer-read script was based on previous state media reports, with the narration describing the Kim-Xi summit, the two leaders’ speeches at the reception, and their lunch meeting generally being the same as previous media coverage. This too, tracks with past Pyongyang television documentaries of Kim activities.
