News North Korean media censors Chinese brand nameThe practice could be part of larger practice of removing foreign branding A North Korean broadcast of flooding repair work published on Tuesday censored the brand of imported Chinese construction equipment, despite the fact that importing the machinery is not sanctioned or restricted. The six-minute clip aired by the North’s foreign news service Uriminzokkiri features the excavator at work in Hoeryong City numerous times, but in the two sections where the machine’s excavating arm is shown, the brand name is heavily pixelated. However, a subsequent shot of the machine’s other side briefly shows its model number. The “916D” was enough to identify the excavator © Korea Risk Group. All rights reserved. |
