Kim Jong Un appears to have continued his consolidation of power and central authority in the wake of Jang Song Taek’s ouster during the month of February. He promoted a number of military officers and demoted at least one. The regime also made a few changes in leadership and diplomatic positions. Other recent events also suggest that Kim is trying to build and maintain the people’s and organizations’ loyalty to the Supreme Leader and the party.

Kim made a total of 13 separate public appearances in February. While a small increase from January, it is still
