South Korea retaliated against North Korea’s latest trash-filled balloon barrage over the weekend by restarting one of Pyongyang’s most detested military operations — propaganda broadcasts from border loudspeakers.

The first such broadcast in six years followed the South Korean government’s full suspension of a 2018 inter-Korean military deal under which Seoul and Pyongyang had agreed to halt border hostilities, and it quickly drew a reaction from North Korea.
