North Korea’s imports of fabrics from China surpassed those of human hair for the second consecutive month in May, a sign that Chinese firms are ramping up the outsourcing of textile production to the DPRK.

The DPRK imported $21.2 million worth of fabrics from its biggest trading partner in May, up from $17.9 million in April, according to data from Beijing’s General Administration of Customs (GAC) released this week. 

Human hair followed as the DPRK’s second-biggest import product with a total value of $13.4 million, a decrease from the $16 million the month prior.
