News China cuts machinery and electronic exports to North Korea in line with UN resolutionsThough some vehicle shipments continued, in possible breach of UN resolutions Chinese exports of machinery and electrical equipment to North Korea tumbled in February as new UN sanctions passed in December took hold, according to figures from Beijing’s customs agency. The most recent UN designations passed on December 22 expanded the list of sectoral sanctions against North Korea, blocking member states from exporting nearly all types of industrial equipment and electrical machinery to the DPRK. Under the new rules, countries can only send the DPRK replacement parts for its fleet of aging commercial airliners, though other types of vehicle export are also prohibited.
