China continued to import and export designated commodity trade groups in December, data from Beijing’s customs agency shows, even as the UN Security Council further tightened sanctions on trade with the DPRK.

A UN resolution passed in December prohibits member states from exporting and importing various kinds of machinery and electronics to North Korea.

“All Member States shall prohibit the direct or indirect supply… of all industrial machinery (HS codes 84 and 85), transportation vehicles (HS codes 86 through 89), and iron, steel, and other metals (HS codes 72 through 83),” UN Resolution 2397 reads.

Unlike numerous other UN
