The New Nuclear Age: At the Precipice of Armageddon
The Korea Society will be hosting a hybrid discussion with NCNK member Ankit Panda, Stanton Senior Fellow in the Nuclear Policy Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, on his newly published book The New Nuclear Age: At the Precipice of Armageddon. The book describes how “nuclear weapons are returning to the fore of international statecraft in ways unseen since the Cold War… The prospect of nuclear escalation is again shaping how political decision-makers and military establishments around the world think and act.” The book includes a section on North Korea’s rapidly advancing nuclear program, the subject of Panda’s first book, and the debate over South Korea acquiring an indigenous deterrent.

The Trump administration and inter-Korean relations
Kyungnam University’s Institute for Far Eastern Studies (IFES) will be hosting a lecture on Wednesday focused on how the Donald Trump administration could impact inter-Korean relations. Given the history of diplomacy between the US and North Korea under Trump, questions have been raised whether a similar process will take place during Trump’s second term. If so, this could have direct implications for relations between the two Koreas. This discussion will explore what position Trump’s administration could take on the development of inter-Korean ties, in the context of Washington’s wider policy toward the DPRK.
