A North Korean weapons factory that Kim Jong Un visited over the weekend appears to be the former manufacturing plant of a defunct inter-Korean automobile venture, potentially underscoring Pyongyang’s efforts to generate illicit revenue through arms exports.

Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program at the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, wrote on social media on Monday that the “national defense enterprise” where the North Korean leader inspected 240 mm multiple rocket launchers is Pyeonghwa Motors’ old factory.
