North Korean rice imports from China nearly doubled in November to a new pandemic-era high, customs data show, as a reported decline in domestic crop output has exacerbated food shortages in the country.

According to China’s General Administration of Customs (GAC), the DPRK imported almost $13 million worth of rice last month, despite an overall decrease in trade compared to October due largely to a decline in exports.
