North Korean state media reported that a group of students braved the elements to summit the “sacred” Mount Paektu on its northern border, as the regime uses such expeditions as part of ideological education for young people.

The participants reportedly learned about Kim Il Sung’s fight against Imperial Japan and his revolutionary spirit, with more students expected to depart for “Mount Paektu” university in the coming days and weeks.

State media also allocated significant space this week to Kim Jong Il, as the former leader died 11 years ago this month.
