Analysis North Korea’s first successful test of massive missile puts US homeland in rangeHwasong-17 likely designed to carry multiple nuclear warheads, but its cumbersome size also creates vulnerabilities North Korea confirmed Saturday that it successfully test-fired a Hwasong-17 (or Hwasongpho-17) intercontinental-range ballistic missile (ICBM) the previous day. The test marks the first successful launch of this missile, North Korea’s largest-ever ICBM. An earlier test attempt in March failed, as NK Pro analysis showed, despite North Korea’s claims to the contrary. Based on independent geolocation of the burn scar associated with the launch, which took place from near Pyongyang’s Sunan International Airport, Friday’s launch appears to be genuine and corresponds to the images released by the Rodong Sinmun on Saturday morning.
