In the wake of North Korea’s two recent long-range projectile launches — which the U.S. claims involved a new intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) system but which Pyongyang described as satellite-related tests — it’s increasingly clear that Pyongyang will soon attempt to place another satellite into orbit.

Rumors are circulating in South Korean media that Kim may be preparing for another ICBM-related launch this week. Not only did Kim Jong Un order the expansion and modernization of North Korea’s main space launch base last week, but a day earlier he instructed scientists to launch “many” military
