Kim Jong Un made three public appearances in total in May, a significant decrease from his 24 public appearances in the previous month and a downturn from his seven appearances in May 2018.

Kim guided two rounds of missile launches and made one economic visit in May. Kim’s guidance of the missile launches built on his increased military-related activities since February, which culminated in mid-April with his guidance of an air drill, Kim’s first such oversight since December 2016, and the test-launch of a “tactical guided
