Korean coal for three months: UNDespite the absence of coal revenue, North Korean imports of Chinese goods remain high No UN member state imported coal from North Korea for the third month running, according to the 1718 Committee’s website which tracks the DPRK’s coal trade. The June figures indicate the North’s revenues from coal – previously its most lucrative export – remained at zero, after dropping precipitously following Beijing’s announcement it would no longer buy the commodity. A UN resolution passed in November last year added a cap on North Korean coal, limiting member states from importing more than 7.5 million tonnes or just over $400,000 worth of coal per year.
