Analysis The Hwasong-12: What do we know so far?Sunday's missile test by North Korea represented a significant step forward for the country's missile program The newly dubbed ‘Hwasong-12’ was tested on Sunday, May 14 early in the morning. Early analysis indicates the Hwasong-12 is an Intermediate Range Ballistic Missile, but is not a fully mobile missile, instead only being a transportable system that has a very limited set of potential launch positions. According to the Rodong Sinmun, the missile reached a very high apogee of 2,111.5 kilometers and splashed down 787 kilometers away. This apogee and range indicate that the test was lofted, which means the missile was deliberately fired with a shorter range and higher apogee than would be normally expected. [p© Korea Risk Group.
