Analysis North Korea exports record coal in August despite UN, Chinese legislationDPRK remains disinterested in importing Chinese cereals, rice North Korean exports of coal hit record highs in August, despite measures from the UN and China’s Ministry of Commerce intended to limit the DPRK’s revenues from the commodity. Figures from the Korea International Trade Association (KITA) collected by China’s customs agency show the DPRK exported nearly 2.5 million tonnes of anthracite in August. The shipment cost Chinese traders nearly $112 million dollars.
