North Korea’s Wonsan Air Base has been undergoing major renovations and expansions, newly released imagery from Google Earth revealed. Renovation and expansion at the airport, located in Wonsan, a major east coast port and fifth-largest city in North Korea, began by July 4 of last year and was still in progress as of August 27. The expansion and renovation of the airport is part of an effort by North Korea in recent years to increase and expand economic activity and tourism in Wonsan and the surrounding areas.
