The number of North Korea defectors arriving in South Korea has continued to fall, according to the most recent data released by the Ministry of Unification (MoU), with far more women defecting per capita than in previous years.

The MoU also releases relatively granular data on the defectors who make it Seoul, which shows women between 30 and 39 are the group most likely to cross the DPRK border, and that a middle school education, geography and being “in between jobs” are also important common factors among defectors.
