North Korea successfully tested a “new-generation” air defense missile system on Thursday, according to state media, as U.S. and South Korean forces concluded their 10-day Freedom Shield military exercises.
The test launch came as DPRK media reported that Kim Jong Un also inspected a naval shipyard in Nampho, a visit that may signal North Korea’s intention to use its new air defenses to counter U.S.-ROK reconnaissance flights off its coasts.
