Chinese journalists return to North Korea for first time since pandemic

People’s Daily and China Media Group dispatch reporters to Pyongyang, but fate of other foreign bureaus remains unclear

Leading Chinese media outlets have re-established their presence in North Korea for the first time since the outbreak of COVID-19, though it remains unclear when Pyongyang will allow other news agencies to return.

The Chinese Embassy in the DPRK announced late last month that correspondents from the People’s Daily newspaper and China Media Group (CMG), the parent company of China Central Television and other state-owned radio and TV broadcasters, entered North Korea on Feb. 27 via the Dandong–Sinuiju border crossing.
