US aircraft carrier arrives in South Korea in first visit since Trump return

USS Carl Vinson will reportedly join trilateral drills, as ROK acting president stresses security ties with US, Japan

A U.S. nuclear-powered aircraft carrier arrived in South Korea on Sunday, reportedly to participate in trilateral drills including Japan, in the first carrier deployment aimed at deterring North Korea under the Trump administration.

The visit by the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) comes approximately eight months after the USS Roosevelt's (CVN-71) visit in June last year and the deployment of a U.S. B-1 strategic bomber for a combined air exercise on Feb. 20.
