Some North Korean trash balloons now carry GPS devices, Seoul says

Location trackers could help DPRK ensure balloons reach their intended targets in South Korea, according to expert

North Korea has attached GPS devices to some of the trash balloons it has been launching into South Korea, the ROK military announced on Sunday, a move that one expert said may seek to verify that the balloons are reaching their intended targets.

In a statement, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) assessed that the DPRK is “gaining experience by attaching GPS devices to some of the balloons they send up.”
