North Korea wins record third U-20 women’s World Cup after beating Japan

DPRK joins US and Germany as only countries to win tournament three times following undefeated run in Colombia

The North Korean team hoisted the champions’ trophy at the women’s under-20 World Cup for the third time on Sunday, becoming the joint most successful team in the competition's history after a narrow win over Japan.

Forward Choe Il Son scored the game's only goal in the 15th minute to seal the win in host nation Colombia, and in the process confirmed her place as the tournament's overall top scorer with six goals.
