Italian animation studio to pay $538K fine for outsourcing work to North Korea

Mondo TV settles with US Treasury over 18 alleged sanctions violations from 2019 to 2021

An Italian animation company has agreed to pay a fine of over half a million dollars for violating sanctions by outsourcing work to a North Korean studio, according to a statement released by the U.S. Treasury Department on Wednesday.

The Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) states that Mondo TV, S.p.a. (Mondo), will pay $538,000 to “settle its potential civil liability for 18 apparent violations of the North Korea Sanctions Regulations” between May 2019 and Nov. 2021.
