ROK holds live-fire drills at islands near North Korea, largest in six years

Exercise comes after South Korea’s suspension of inter-Korean military pact paved way for more drills near border

South Korea conducted a full-scale live-fire exercise near the maritime border with North Korea for the first time in over six years on Wednesday, following its suspension of an inter-Korean military deal earlier this month.

“This is the first maritime live-fire exercise at the northwestern islands since the Comprehensive Military Agreement (CMA) was fully suspended due to North Korea’s recent provocations such as the GPS jamming and missile launches,” the ROK marine corps stated in a press release.
