ROK foreign ministry downgrades North Korea division in sweeping reorganization

Denuclearization talks division now part of broader foreign affairs headquarters, reflecting deemphasizing of dialogue

South Korea’s foreign ministry carried out a mass reshuffle of divisions responsible for North Korea on Tuesday, reorganizing its headquarters for denuclearization talks and downgrading the rank of its lead nuclear envoy.

The Korean Peninsula Peace and Negotiation Headquarters will be reorganized as part of the Foreign Affairs Strategy and Information Headquarters, which will have four bureaus that will absorb the previous division’s responsibilities, the foreign ministry stated in a press release.
