North Korea fires apparent ICBM, second missile launch in 10 hours: ROK

Launches come after US-ROK nuclear weapon talks and arrival of US submarine in Busan

North Korea launched a “long-range” ballistic missile toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan) on Monday morning, according to South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), around ten hours after a suspected short-range ballistic missile (SRBM) test.

The morning launch appears to be the country’s first intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test since July, and it comes days after the U.S. and South Korea reiterated warnings that a DPRK nuclear attack would spell the “end of the Kim regime” and as a U.S. nuclear-powered submarine arrived at an ROK port.
