South Korean police are investigating North Korean escapees for sending money to family members still in the country, probes that the leader of one defector organization said are causing confusion and unrest among defectors.

Jae-Pyoung Seo, the director of the Association of North Korean Defectors, told NK News on Monday that he knows of several North Korean defectors currently under investigation for remittances to family in the DPRK, a common practice among escapees that ROK authorities have usually allowed for humanitarian reasons.
