North Korea illicitly added 14 ships to fleet, mostly from China: UN report

Panel of Experts indicates DPRK has now acquired 52 vessels since 2020 in violation of international sanctions

North Korea has added 13 freighters and one tanker to its commercial fleet this year in a “continued” violation of international sanctions, according to a new U.N. report, with most of the vessels coming from China.

The 14 vessels acquired between January and May 2023 bring the total number of ships that the DPRK has added to its fleet since 2020 to 52 ships, the U.N. Panel of Experts indicated in its latest report on violations of the North Korea sanctions regime.
