UN envoy raises North Korea gender issues, but experts lament lack of detail

Elizabeth Salmon calls for ‘women’s participation’ in peace efforts in latest report on DPRK human rights

The U.N. special rapporteur on North Korean human rights called for “broad-based women’s participation” in inter-Korean peace and security efforts on Wednesday, in her latest report on the country’s human rights situation.

But while experts praised Elizabeth Salmon’s focus on North Korean women and girls, they told NK News that the report lacks detail and fails to adequately address specific human rights violations in the DPRK.
