Seoul asks North Korea to accept body that washed up on border island

Unification ministry says man’s possessions indicate he was DPRK citizen, though it’s unclear if he was trying to defect

South Korea has called for the DPRK to accept the body of a suspected North Korean national that washed up on a west coast island two weeks ago.

In a statement released Thursday, the unification ministry said the male body was discovered on Seokmo Island in Incheon on Sept. 10 and taken to a nearby hospital for storage.
