UN puts North Korea on hunger watchlist over food insecurity concerns

Forecast warns extreme weather may have impacted farming, but does not name DPRK as global ‘hunger hotspot’

A new U.N. report has named North Korea among several countries that require monitoring due to concerns about food insecurity, though it does not list the DPRK as one of more than a dozen “hunger hotspots” worldwide.

In the forecast for June to November, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and World Food Program (WFP) state that “available analyses suggest that a large proportion of the population in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea might suffer from low levels of food consumption and poor dietary diversity.”
