A hundred South Korean fishermen charged with illegally crossing the inter-Korean maritime border and other crimes after being detained in North Korea will receive retrials, prosecutors announced Tuesday, over 50 years after their original convictions.

In a press release, the Supreme Prosecutors Office stated that the fishermen may have been wrongly accused of violating the National Security Act (NSA) due in part to strong anti-communist sentiment, framing the retrials as a chance for the men to finally clear their names.
