Seoul says it will build ‘cyber umbrella’ with US to deter North Korean hackers

At summit, US and ROK leaders agree to boost cyber intel sharing and better protect networks under new framework

The U.S. and South Korea will strengthen cyber intelligence sharing and boost defenses against North Korean hackers under a new cybersecurity cooperation framework, the allies announced after a bilateral summit on Wednesday, framing it as an effort to build a “cyber umbrella” to deter attacks.

The new Strategic Cybersecurity Cooperation Framework seeks to better protect the allies’ national security networks, boost defensive cybersecurity capabilities and collaborate on capacity-building efforts, the White House stated in a factsheet released after the leaders’ summit in Washington.
