The U.S., South Korea and Japan conducted a joint missile defense drill off the east coast of the peninsula on Monday, according to Seoul’s defense ministry, as the three countries seek to counter North Korean threats following Pyongyang’s test of a new solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missile.
The exercise took place as Seoul and Washington also kicked off two-week-long air exercises the same day, and as before U.S. President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol are set to discuss trilateral cooperation and efforts to deter the DPRK at a bilateral summit next week.
