North Korea fires long-range ballistic missile into East Sea: ROK military

Seoul condemns fourth missile launch in a week and warns DPRK will ‘pay a price’ for ‘provocations’ amid US-ROK drills

North Korea has fired an unidentified long-range ballistic missile toward the East Sea (Sea of Japan), its fourth launch event in about a week, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS) announced Thursday morning.

The military said the missile was fired at a lofted angle from Pyongyang’s Sunan area and flew around 620 miles (1,000 km) before landing in the sea, without providing an estimate of maximum altitude. North Korea has conducted other intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) tests from Sunan, most recently a Hwasong-15 ICBM launch last month.
