Seoul denies civic group’s request to visit North Korea for family reunion talks

Unification ministry says it cannot verify invitation that ROK civic group says it received from DPRK organization

South Korea’s unification ministry has rejected a civic group’s request to visit North Korea to discuss a reunion project for families separated by the Korean War, following a weeklong investigation into an invitation allegedly sent by a DPRK organization.

A spokesperson said the ministry reached its conclusion after consulting with “relevant government agencies” about the application to visit Pyongyang filed by South-North Separated Families Association.
