North Korea confirmed that it fired around 130 artillery rounds on Monday in the direction of waters off its east and west coasts, framing its actions as a “warning” to South Korea following ROK live-fire drills which began the same day.
In a statement released through the state-owned Korean Central Agency (KCNA), the General Staff of the Korean People’s Army (KPA) said that it detected several multiple rocket launcher shells fired from Cheorwon County in South Korea’s Gangwon Province between 8:30 a.m. and 3:50 p.m. KST. The KPA responded with its own artillery shots fired as a “tit for tat warning” between 3 and 4 p.m. KST, KCNA reported.
