US flight regulator says North Korean missiles pose ‘safety hazard’ to planes

Federal Aviation Administration criticizes launch over Japan as experts warn of risks from test failures

North Korea’s continued missile tests present an “enduring safety hazard” for civil aviation, the U.S. transportation agency has warned, a week after a DPRK intermediate-range ballistic missile (IRBM) sailed over Japan.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said in a notice posted Tuesday that “multiple flights” from Tokyo were canceled as a result of the Oct. 4 launch and that many DPRK missile tests go “beyond the boundaries” of North Korean airspace.
