North Korea officially opened a new street of apartments for 10,000 families and an 80-story skyscraper on Monday after just over a year of construction, state media reported, with leader Kim Jong Un cutting the ribbon at a ceremony.

Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) promoted the “Songhwa Street” project as a success in the face of the “worst national crisis” and economic “hardships,” but did not indicate when chosen residents will begin to actually move into the new homes spread across dozens of apartment buildings.
