South Korea’s unification ministry contacted North Korea last week to demand that Pyongyang explain its unilateral decision to dismantle the South’s facilities at the long-shuttered Mount Kumgang inter-Korean tourist zone, the ministry announced on Wednesday.

An NK News analysis of satellite imagery showed North Korea began dismantling the floating Hotel Haegumgang owned by South Korea’s Hyundai Asan company in early March, a development that followed Kim Jong Un’s 2019 order to remove “shabby” ROK assets from the resort.
