South Korea raises cyber alert levels citing North Korean threats

Defense ministry points to concerns about Russia and DPRK, while spy agency notes risks due to presidential transition

South Korea’s defense ministry elevated the national cybersecurity alert level on Monday to the third-highest of five tiers, citing threats related to North Korea’s ballistic missile launches and the war in Ukraine.

The country’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) also raised its separate cyber alert level at the same time as the defense ministry, while adding that the measure aims to protect government information against cyberattacks during the handover to the new administration.
